The Herculaneum Archaeological Park, led by Director Federica Colaiacomo, announces the reopening of the House of the Mosaic Atrium and the Wattle-and-Daub House, two of the ancient city’s most important residences, which are once again open to the public after decades of closure.

The reopening marks a new phase of the Domus Project, the conservation and restoration program dedicated to six of the site’s most significant domus. Following the Casa del Colonnato Tuscanico and the Casa del Sacello di Legno, which reopened in March 2025, and the Casa del Mobilio Carbonizzato, which reopened in July 2026, the project continues with two additional complexes of particular significance. The project is being carried out as part of a collaboration between the Herculaneum Archaeological Park and the Packard Humanities Institute, through the Packard Institute for Cultural Heritage, and is funded with 5 million euros from the “Vesuvius – Pompeii – Naples” Institutional Development Contract (FSC 2014–2020).
