THE ROYAL PALACE OF PORTICI

The Palace

The Royal Palace of Portici, constructed between 1738 and 1742 at the behest of Charles of Bourbon, stands as one of the most captivating royal residences in Campania. Nestled between the slopes of Mount Vesuvius and the Gulf of Naples, it was designed by architects Giovanni Antonio Medrano and Antonio Canevari. Originally conceived as a summer residence, the palace is surrounded by an expansive park that includes the Botanical Garden of Portici, one of the oldest in Italy.

Today, the Royal Palace of Portici houses the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Naples “Federico II” and the MUSA – Museums of Agricultural Sciences. This architectural and naturalistic complex not only represents a significant historical and artistic heritage but also serves as an international center for research and education.
