Total cost of restoration work at Villa Sora + the so-called Terme-Ginnasio, Torre del Greco (NA)€ 60.000

The sites: Villa Sora and the so-called Terme-Ginnasio

The two sites are located in Torre del Greco (Naples), approximately 3.6 km from Herculaneum, and have been under the jurisdiction of the Herculaneum Archaeological Park since 2023. Villa Sora is a Roman-era residence overlooking the Gulf of Naples. The building stands on terraces sloping down to the sea, with finely frescoed walls and floors decorated with mosaics and opus sectile. The so-called Baths-Gymnasium, only partially explored, yields the remains of another residential complex, recently cleared of a thick reed bed that had obscured its view for decades.

Restoration and maintenance interventions

Villa Sora:

  • Restoration of wall decorations: consolidation of the painted layer, cleaning, material and pictorial integration
  • Relocation of a detached mural painting to its original location, after consolidating the fragments and assembling them on a suitable panel

Terme-Ginnasio:

  • Extraordinary maintenance of degraded or detached plaster
  • Monitoring and combating degradation caused by atmospheric agents, microflora and vegetation, aggravated by proximity to the sea

The Herculaneum Archaeological Park seeks the support of citizens, businesses, and patrons to continue its daily and ongoing commitment to protecting a world heritage site. Every contribution, no matter how small, is valuable and makes a difference.
