On May 10, 2026, to celebrate Mother’s Day, the Ercolano Archaeological Park is dedicating a special day to families and children with neurodevelopmental disorders, with a particular focus on autism. The initiative is part of the “Culture Without Barriers” project, created in collaboration with the #micolorodiblu Onlus association and CoopCulture, and confirms the Park’s ongoing commitment to making cultural heritage a welcoming, participatory place open to all.

Throughout the morning, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, inclusive guided tours will be available, divided into four hourly shifts, with groups of up to 25 participants each. The tour, lasting approximately an hour and a half, is designed to foster serenity, understanding, and engagement. Specialized staff and cultural heritage experts will guide visitors through every step of the tour.

Participation is open to families with children, elementary and middle schools, and anyone seeking an innovative and accessible cultural experience. Comfortable clothing is recommended.

Technology and gaming for an immersive experience

During the day, participants will be able to use “Adventure in Herculaneum,” the interactive digital guide designed by experts in education and neurodiversity to support the engagement of children with autism or other cognitive difficulties. The app is available on tablets provided directly by the Park or can be downloaded free of charge on Apple iPads at ercolano.cultura.gov.it/accessibilita/

Thanks to augmented reality and interactive beacons scattered along the route, visitors will be able to enjoy immersive and playful experiences: reassembling ancient mosaics, throwing a javelin in the Palestra, collecting coins on Balbo’s terrace, virtually restoring archaeological finds, and much more. A practical way to transform the visit into a moment of shared discovery, accessible and engaging for everyone.
