On the occasion of National Landscape Day, celebrated on March 14, the Herculaneum Archaeological Park is offering the public a free thematic tour entitled “Landscapes Through Time. Vesuvius and Surroundings,” dedicated to exploring and reflecting on the landscape transformations in the Vesuvius area from antiquity to the contemporary era.

The initiative offers an opportunity to observe the archaeological site from a different perspective, focusing on the relationship between humanity and the environment and the evolution of the area over the centuries. Through glimpses of the ancient city, with its views of Mount Vesuvius to the north and the sea to the south, participants will be guided on a journey that illustrates how the Vesuvian landscape has transformed over time.

During the visit, we will reflect on how we perceive the landscape around us today, its significance, and the importance of protecting and caring for it. Landscape is not just a natural context, but a cultural and identity-defining heritage, the result of the interaction between the environment, resources, human activities, and land use practices.

Starting from the observation of the ancient city, it will be possible to investigate how the inhabitants of Herculaneum exploited the territory’s resources and how these dynamics have changed over time, in relation to social needs, technologies, and forms of spatial organization.

Information for the public:

  • Shift times 10:30 and 12:00
  • Visit duration: approximately 1 hour
  • Participants: maximum 25 people per shift

Modalità di partecipazione: l’attività è gratuita con biglietto ordinario di ingresso al sito e prenotazione obbligatoria al link: Parco Archeologico di Ercolano | CoopCulture
