The treasures of the Herculaneum Archaeological Park, custodians of a unique history and ambassadors of Italian cultural excellence, continue to travel the world. On the occasion of the international exhibition “Romains_Arts_Patrimoine,” which is being held at the Lugdunum Museum in Lyon, France, until June 7, 2026, the Park has loaned three significant artifacts to enrich the prestigious exhibition.

Park messengers are:

  • the Statuette of Venus, a refined sculptural work that embodies the elegance and grace of ancient art;
  • the polychrome Head of Amazon, an extraordinary example of expressive and chromatic rendering, testimony to the artistic level reached by Roman art and the original use of color in sculpture;
  • the Charred Wood Framed Painting depicting winged cupids, a scene inspired by the cult of Apollo that brings a touch of figurative poetry and cultured elegance of ancient Herculaneum to the exhibition’s itinerary. The work underwent a thorough restoration funded by the Lugdunum Museum in Lyon.

These artifacts, chosen for their historical, artistic and symbolic value, represent another chapter in the international journey of Herculaneum’s works, which have long been the protagonists of collaborations with foreign cultural institutions. Their presence in Lyon contributes to spreading knowledge of Herculaneum’s heritage beyond national borders, confirming the Park’s role as a hub of research, protection and cultural dissemination.
