MOUNT VESUVIUS

Mount Vesuvius, one of the world’s most famous and studied volcanoes, is renowned for its devastating eruption in 79 A.D. that buried the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. This stratovolcano consists of an outer cone, Monte Somma, and a younger inner cone, the Great Cone of Vesuvius. Its volcanic activity is characterized by both explosive and effusive eruptions, with the last significant eruption occurring in 1944.

Established in 1995, Vesuvius National Park protects this extraordinary natural and volcanic environment, offering hiking trails that allow visitors to explore the area’s biodiversity and admire breathtaking views. The Park serves as an important center for environmental education and scientific research, contributing to the conservation of Vesuvius’ natural and cultural heritage.
